Williams 7 Cheshire Academy 6

Williams showed it's resolve, and finished the season on a high note by playing phenomenal team baseball.  Top to bottom, all 17 players were into the game, cheering one another on, and helping each other on the base paths.  Cheshire came out swinging, and put up two runs in the first.  Soon, they were up 4-2 and again, 6-3.  Early walks were just about the only thing that hurt the Blues, as Jack Shannon was electric, and only got stronger as the game went on.  Though Max Dolan and Rashan Young were ready to relieve the Williams starter, each inning he came off the mound he proved he was not through, requiring single digit pitches to retire the side in the sixth and seventh inning.  Defense was another strength for Williams.  CJ Parker continued his fine play at second, Evan Winalski and Andy Meagher each had outfield put outs, and Adam Jacey threw out the go ahead run trying to swipe third in the sixth inning.  Williams picked off runners at first and second, which was huge in limiting the Cheshire attack.  Jeff Nasiatka was the hero at the plate, recording two hits and just as many RBIs, as well as being very aggressive on the basepath.  Unfortunately, the home team had to pull the plug on the very exciting game, and forfeited at the end of the seventh inning due to time concerns.  Cheshire played great, especially with their starting pitching and infield defense.  It was as amazing way to end the season.

Hamden Hall 14 - Williams 0
Curent Record 5-2

After falling behind 9-0, Williams relief pitcher Max Dolan threw three strong innings, limiting the damage, though not being helped all that much by his defense.  One bright spot on defense was the play of C.J. Parker who had 5 assists at second base.  Hamden was sharp, allowing only one hit and turning two double plays, while also picking off a Williams runner in the first.  It was a forgettable game for the Blues, who hope to finish the season on a much stronger note Tuesday at Cheshire.

Grove 10 - Williams 11
Current Record 5-1

Rashan Young came in to relief in the fourth inning, made a solid defensive play at second in the sixth, and scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh.  All of this after Williams came out to a dismal openning few innings.  Walks and mental errors nearly sank the team, but with the score 8 - 4, Young took the mound and cooled off the Grove attack, though it didn't always look easy.  He found the strike zone with consistancy and made the Grove batters swing at some tough pitches.  As Williams drew nearer to tying the game, with a rally led by the meat of their order including C.J. Parker, Andy Meagher, Nick Smith, and Jack Shannon.  Shannon moved from first base and once again took the ball for Williams.  He was electric, locating fast ball after fast ball on the corner, collecting strike outs and energizing his entire team.  Grove's starting pitcher threw a tremendous game, but Williams was able to take advantage of fatigue issues and rally back to score two in the 6th to tie, and in the 7th, Jeffrey Nasiatka found his stroke and hit a game winning double that landed just inside the left field foul line.  Both teams deserve the credit for an exciting game!

Current 4-1

Williams 21 - Grove12
Liam Tresnan threw four strong innings for Williams, striking out five.  He benefitted from a    4-6-3 double play in the bottom of the first that was turned in by C.J. Parker, Adam Jacey, and Jack Shannon.  Sotiraq Vangjeli struck out four pitching the rest of the game, and also scored three runs.  Williams did most of its damage in the fifth, batting around and scoring ten runs in that frame.  Mack Goller also scored three runs.

Williams 18 - St. Thomas More 4
Williams had their best complete team game Saturday at St. Thomas More, and it all started behind the strong, gutsy pitching of Jack Shannon who struck out 6 Chancellors in five innings before the mercy rule ended the game.  The Blues scored 7 runs in the second, an inning highlighted by Andy Meagher continuing to show increased power this year, as he belted a double on his way towards a three hit afternoon.  Rashan Young and Mack Goller had good defensive games, with Goller ranging to his left, making the a play on a tough ground ball and extinguishing a first inning bases loaded situation.  Greg Thaxton caught a fly ball in the fourth and made a heads up play to throw out a runner by a hair at second.  As always, Evan Winalski looked sharp in the outfield.  Piper Clement had the hardest hit ball of the game, but was unlucky that the St. Thomas More right fielder made an aggressive play and made the catch.  Top to bottom, the boys played great and we hope to keep it up.

Williams 16 - Chase 7
Current Record 2-1
Jack Shannon set the tone for Williams by pitching 4 very strong shutout innings, recording several strikeouts as well as fielding his position well.  Greg Thaxton caught the entire game, and inspired the Blues with his hard work behind the plate.  The bats were alive and Williams enjoyed early runs before Chase defense sured up and made it a closer game in the last three innings.

Rectory 15 - Williams 4
Williams showed their defensive rust by committing errors in just about every inning.  An early injury to starting pitcher Jack Shannon meant that the Blues bullpen was pressed into early, extended service.  Adam Jacey had two RBI's, but the defensive woes were too much to overcome, and Williams lost to a sound Rectory team.

Williams 19 - St. Thomas More 2
Williams showed that they had learned from their previous outing, and sured up their defense behind starting pitcher Rashan Young, who threw three scoreless innings.  Jeffrey Nasiatka and Mack Goller had impressive defensive put outs and the entire team benefited at the plate and on the basepaths from a St. Thomas More team that was playing its first game of the season.  Sotiraq Vangjelli and Adam Jacey were both called on to pitch, and did so very effectively.
