Williams 2 Bancroft 16 Nerves got the best of Williams in their season opener against a much “bigger” Bancroft. Danielle Auerbach had two solid rips, batting 2-for-3 with a run scored, as the lead-off hitter. Rivkah Berkman had an RBI double which was the only extra base hit of the game. Rivkah also struck out six batters at her debut as pitcher for the Blues. GAME 2 Hebrew High School 2 Williams 33 The Blues were quite impressive in their home opener win over Hebrew H.S. Danielle Auerbach went 5-for-6 with six runs scored and hit for the cycle. Danielle had a single, two doubles, a triple and a home run. Christina Menniti had four hits and Shoshana Berkman, Marjorie Holcombe and Sarah Shourds had three hits each. Hayleigh Mildon, Haley Blair, and Grace Nepomuceno also had a hit. Rivkah Berkman hit a grand slam with 5 runs scored. Rivkah also threw a one-hitter and struck out eight as she improved her pitching record to 1-1 for the Blues. GAME 3 Greens Farms 10 Williams 11 Rivkah Berkman struck out 14 batters including the last batter of the game with the tying run on third. Rivkah went2-for-3 with four runs scored and three RBI to help her improve her record to 2-1. Marjorie Holcombe went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Sarah Shourds went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Shoshana Berkman had an RBI single and two runs scored while Danielle Auerbach and Haley Blair also had a hit apiece. GAME 4 CHASE 7 WILLIAMS13 Another exciting win for the Blues! Rivkah Berkman struck out 7 batters and went 3-for-4 with three doubles, five RBI and three runs scored. Shoshana Berkman went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. Danielle Auerbach had a double and three runs scored. While Marjorie Holcombe had a hit with an RBI and two runs scored. Williams improved their record to 3-1. GAME 5 Williams 3 Marionapolis 18 It was an extremely cold and rainy day but the blues came out strong despite the weather. Up by two in the bottom of the second, a great play by Shoshana Berkman changed the momentum of the game forever. Shoshana held on to a throw from her sister Rivkah Berkman at home plate to get the first out of the inning. As the opposing team’s base runner tried to slide under the tag, she took Shoshana down. Shoshana suffered an arm injury which ended up forcing her to leave the game. With Shoshana’s absence the team had to change several defensive positions. Thirteen errors were committed by the team. Even with Rivkah’s gallant effort from the mound, striking out seven batters in five inning, it wasn’t enough for the blues to bounce back. Danielle Auerbach continued to produce up at bat going 1-for-1 with two runs scored, While Marjorie Holcombe, Sarah Shourds, and Hayleigh Mildon each had one hit a piece. GAME 6 Williams 4 Wheeler 14 Sarah Shourds allowed only three hits in her pitching debut, while Rivkah Berkman allowed only one hit in her two innings of relief. Unfortunately this was not enough for the Blues to get the victory. With the absence of Shoshana Berkman (due to injury) and Marjorie Holcombe, the Blues continued to commit another thirteen errors in this game also. The bats did come alive a bit more in this game but it still wasn’t enough to make up for the errors. Danielle Auerbach was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, Rivkah was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI, while Christina Menniti and Hayleigh Mildon both had one hit a piece. GAME 7 Williams 8 Hamden Hall 7 With a full healthy team back, the Blues showed Hamden Hall how Williams Softball is played. Despite having only 4 hits, Williams took advantage of every base runner it had. Executing delayed steals and other creative plays on the base path is what sealed the win for the Blues. Sarah Shourds and Rivkah Berkman combined to strike out seven batters in Sarah’s first official win at the pitcher position. Danielle Auerbach went 2-for-2 with a double and one run scored, while Marjorie Holcombe and Rivkah both went 1-for-3 with two runs scored each. Haley Blair, Shoshana Berkman, and Sarah all scored one run a piece. GAME 8 Wheeler 9 Williams 10 Williams Softball continues to send the opposing team home playing the “blues”. The bats came alive in this game! Fifteen hits for the Blues and 0 errors helped the Blues win this game. Down by one run In the bottom of the seventh with one out Danielle Auerbach hit a triple. Shoshana Berkman followed with an RBI double and Marjorie Holcombe drew a walk. With runners on first and second Rivkah Berkman hit a single to load the bases. With the bases loaded Sarah Shourds hits and RBI single to win the game. Hayleigh Mildon went an impressive 4-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI, Rivkah went an incredible 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, three runs scored, and two RBI, Danielle went 2-for-4 with a triple and one run scored, Shoshana Berkman went 2-for-4 with one run scored and an RBI, Haley Blair went 1-for3 with two runs scored, Sarah went 1-for-3 with one run scored and the game ending RBI, while Grace Nepomuceno and Christina Menniti also added one hit a piece! |
