Williams 64 - Rocky 57

Williams ended their season with a strong victory over SENE rival Rocky Hill. Chris Trammell had another triple-double and Jake Goldberg added 24 points. Rashad Young also added in double digits, scoring 10 points in the finale. Great job boys!

Williams 53 St. Andrew's 69
Williams went into this SENE match-up with a slim chance of making the conference tournament, but were unable to stop the offensive boards of St. Andrew's. After about 8 minutes of playing the Saints were up 8 points, and maintained that margin for the rest of the game, finally going up by more than 10 with just minutes to play. Jake Goldberg had another solid performance with a game-high 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Sam Pieniadz dropped in 12 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. Chris Trammell also pulled in 7 boards.

Williams 53 NYMA 57
Williams honored 10 seniors and their parents at the last regular-season home game Wednesday. The seniors make-up almost the whole team and have made significant contributions to the team for many years. Unfortunately NYMA jumped out to a 24-9 lead midway through the first half to dampen the mood. Williams made a great run to close-out the first half by outscoring NYMA on a 12-0 run, leaving Williams down only 3 at the half. The Blues then continued the momentum a took a 4-point lead just after halftime. The rest of the game was close - both team taking small lead, but NYMA pulled ahead and won by 4. Sam Pieniadz scored 18, Jake Goldberg scored 17 and Chris Trammell scored 11. Jake also added 7 steals and 4 assists. Chris added 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Sam added another 5 rebounds. Overall the Blues played a great game and the crowd was supportive and excited throughout. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the Blues all season!

Williams 35 MacDuffie 75
Williams did not bring their best game against a pretty good MacDuffie team, and lost by a large margain. Jake Goldberg led the team with 10 points, followed by Chris Trammell with 8 and Drew Watson with 7. Chris also pulled down 10 rebounds, and Noah Spigelman grabbed 5. Williams will get a chance to play MacDuffie again in the Williams Tournament in 2 weeks.

Williams 60 Forman 46
Williams started out very slowly after traveling to Litchfield to play Forman. by the middle of the first half, the Blues found themselves down by 12 points and were playing very sloppy basketball. With 4 minutes left in the first half the team finally started to see some production and some enthusiasm. Going into half-time Williams was down by a score of 28-24. Forman increased it's lead just after the break, but Williams was determined to make a comeback. Noah Spigelman gave Williams the lead with 4:39 left to play in the game, their first lead since the game started at 3-0. Williams maintained a lead after that and won the game by a score of 60-46. Chris Trammell scored the team's first triple-double of the year, scoring 17 points, grabbing 17 rebounds, and blocking a school record 13 shots. Jake Goldberg added 27 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds. Noah Spigelman added 8 points and 10 rebounds. Great job boys, wonderful team effort!

Williams 63 Hyde 75
Williams fell behind quickly to a very strong Hyde team, but shot the ball well throughout the game, hitting 40 percent of all shots from the floor, and 85 percent from the line. The stand-out performance of the game was watching Jake Goldberg put the team on his back and play the best game of his career, scoring 40 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block. Sam Pieniadz also had a great first half with 7 points and 3 rebounds, but did not play in the second half due to illness. Rashad Young added 8 points and Chris Trammell added 3 points and 6 rebounds. Sam Evans was impressive late with tremendous defense and 3 points.

Williams 75 Oxford 38
Williams played a great game against Oxford, finally getting their break-through game of the year. Williams jumped out to a fast start by going ahead by a score of 21-3 at the end of the first quarter, and maintained a comfortable lead throughout. It was a great team effort, as no player posted a double-double, and all but 1 player scored for Williams. Jake Goldberg scored 19 points to lead the Blues, and also had 6 assists and 4 steals. Sam Pieniadz scored 15 and grabbed 7 rebounds. Noah Spigelman grabbed 7 rebounds and Chris Trammell scored 8 and lead the team with 13 rebounds. Sam Evans had his best offensive game scoring 8 points and Jake Dryden-Jaffe has a solid game with 4 points and 4 rebounds.

Williams 47 Chase 51
Williams played their best game of the year, but came up just short against Chase. Having played Chase earlier this year and losing by 17, Williams is showing their improvement this season by having a chance to win at the end. Ahead by 1 at the half, and tied with only 2 minutes to play in the game, it was a great game throughout. Chase hit a 3-pointer, and Jake Goldberg's answer rolled out, leaving the Blues down by 3 with under a minute to play. Unfortunately Williams could not make up anymore ground and suffered a heart breaking loss. Overall Williams pulled down 43 rebounds. Sam Pieniadz grabbed 10, Noah Spigelman 9 and Chris Trammell 7. Sam Pieniadz also scored a team-high 14 for another double-double. Jake Goldberg added 13 points, Chris Trammell 10 and Jake Dryden-Jaffe scored 7.

Williams 47 PCDS 76
Williams visited a very tough team at PCDS. Although the score was lopsided at the end, Williams played a good basketball game. Our 4 bigs under the basket had a tremendous game, led by Noah Spigelman's double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Chris Trammell added 12 points and 5 boards, Sam Pieniadz grabbed another 5 and Jake Dryden-Jaffe grabbed 2 key rebounds and made some great plays. Jake Goldberg added 10 points and had 4 assists and 3 steals. Adam Ghalmi had 2 steals and 3 assists.

Williams 32 Greens Farms 57
Although Williams was unable to catch Greens Farms, Williams came away with a solid effort. Williams grabbed a season-high 41 rebounds, including 16 offensive rebounds. Sam Pieniadz and Noah Spigelman led the team with 9 rebounds each, and Jake Dryden-Jaffe pulled down 7 more. Rashad Young grabbed 5 rebounds and had 2 steals. Noah Spigelman led the team with 9 points and Jake Goldberg added 7 points.

Williams 40 Wooster 52
Both teams played solid defense in the first half, as Williams went into the locker room down 17-14. The scoring opened up in the second half, but Wooster was able to increase their lead and sink some late free-throws. Sam Pieniadz had a solid game scoring 12 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Jake Goldberg added 13 points and pulled down another 5 rebounds. Chris Trammell scored 9 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.

Williams 36 Wheeler 50
Williams played tough against SENE conference opponent Wheeler School, but really struggled putting the ball in the hoop. Kolton Harris nailed a 3-pt, basket at the buzzer to close the gap to 2 at halftime, but Williams only managed 15 points in the second half against a very tough Wheeler defense. Kolton Harris and Jake Goldberg each scored 9 points for Williams, Chris Trammell added 9 rebounds and Adam Ghalmi grabbed 7 rebounds.

Williams 52 St. Andrews 64
Williams played their best game of the season in front of a wild crowd at Friday Night Basketball, but came up just short in the end. Williams played the game with great enthusiasm, tenacious defense and excellent energy. A 30 second burst just before halftime game St. Andrews an 11 point lead at half, but in the second half Williams came back to pull within 2 points with just 4 minutes to go. A few 3-pointers by St. Andrews, and some made free throws down the stretch gave the Blues a loss in this terrific SENE game. 2 Williams players posted double-doubles - Sam Pieniadz scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Jake Goldberg scored 11 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had 5 steals. Chris Trammell added 14 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Miles Sherman also played great defense with 4 steals.

Williams 42 West Woods Christian 49
Williams opened up 2010 with a lackluster performance against West Woods Christian Academy. Williams had trouble with the cold temperatures and their cold shooting. Jake Goldberg led the team with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Sam Pieniadz added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Rashad Young chipped in 4 points and had a game-high 4 steals.

Williams 33 Chase 50
Williams met up with Chase Collegiate at the Doc Hurley Tournament in Hartford last Friday. A tournament that hosts some of the best basketball teams in Connecticut, Williams was ready to finish 2009 with a win, but had trouble scoring in a game that saw Chase hit some open jumpers. Jake Goldberg led the team with 11 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. Chris Trammell had 8 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Sam Pieniadz threw in 6 points and pulled down 7 boards. Kolton Harris was perfect at the FT line going 4 for 4.

Williams vs Rocky Hill
Williams started out strong with some excellent shooting by Jake Goldberg and Sam Pieniadz, then Rocky Hil chipped away at the lead with some strong play by their senior guards. Rocky Hill took a 3 point advantage into the second half, and Williams stayed close until the final 7 minutes when Rocky Hill didn't miss a shot and ran away with the victory. Jake Goldberg scored 19, Sam Pieniadz added 14 to go along with his 8 rebounds. Miles Sherman led the blues with 3 blocked shots.

Williams vs Falmouth
Williams played against conference opponent Falmouth Academy in their home opener, and played well as a team to overtake Falmouth by 8 points. Falmouth came out shooting the ball well and took a small lead before Williams started to heat up. By the end of the first half Williams had taken a 3-point lead because of a well executed play and terrific 3 pointer at the buzzer by Kolton Harris. The lead was surrendered midway through the second half and Williams found itself down 5 points with 11 minutes to play. Williams went on an 18-6 run over the next 6:00 minutes and never found themselves trailing again. Tenacious defense and ball control down the stretch led Williams to their first victory of the year, and put them at 1-1 in the conference. 2 players ended up with double-doubles. Jake Goldberg scored 18 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists, while Chris Trammell scored 13 and grabbed 10 rebounds. Rashad Young came off the bench to score a career-high 12 points and Noah Spigelman added 8 points to go along with his 8 rebounds.

Williams vs St Thomas More
Williams fell behind quickly as St. Thomas More started by hitting big shots early and often. Williams kept pace in the second half by matching STM point-for-point, but the difference in the first half was the final margin. Jake Goldberg scored a game-high 25 points, added 5 assists and had 4 steals. Jake Dryden-Jaffe came off the bench to go 2 for 2 from the field and grabbed 4 rebounds. Chris Trammel added 6 points and pulled down 6 boards.

Williams vs Watkinson
Williams opened their season by playing well the first few minutes of the game. Outscoring Watkinson 8-0, Williams was playing some very disciplined basketball and were in control of the game. Ahead by only 1 at half, Williams came out ready to build the lead back up - and did. Ahead by 8 with only 8 minutes to play, Watkinson started to chip away at the lead and Williams felt the pressure. Some uncharacteristic turnovers lead to some easy Watkinson baskets, and the game was tied with only 2 minutes to go. In the end Williams was unable to match the intensity by a feisty Watkinson team and lost the opener by 4. Jake Goldberg scored 19 points, 4 assists and 3 steals. Sam Pieniadz had 11 points and 5 rebounds. Noah Spigelman came off the bench to lead Williams with 6 rebounds and also threw in 6 points.
