Tenth Grade Trip to Boston Museum of Fine Arts

On Wednesday, February 6 the sophomore class traveled to Boston for a cross-disciplinary History and Art excursion at the Museum of Fine Arts. In the first portion of the museum visit, students divided into groups and went with museum docents on a tour of their Asian art galleries exploring the theme "Art Along the Silk Routes."

In the second part, students were given a worksheet for a more self-guided look at European paintings and sculpture. History Department Chair Ben Ladd picked out 6 rooms from the museum's European art galleries. For each room, he asked students to write their observations on a work of art that he selected and then one other work of art that they picked out. The exercise covered "A Millenium in European Art" in galleries ranging from Medieval Art to the Impressionists.
