Chemistry Olympiad, March 2009
Over Spring Break, Ms. Nancy Spillane and Mrs. Rachel Thomas-Shapiro accompanied eight intrepid Williams Chemistry students to participate in the local section of the Chemistry Olympiad held at UConn in Storrs. Alex Lin ’10 qualified to take the National Chemistry Olympiad exam April 24 at UMass, Amherst. Approximately 10 students throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut qualify to take this exam, so it is quite an accomplishment! Alex will compete with 1,000 students nationally who are attempting to place among the top 20 students to attend a summer camp in Colorado Springs. There a final four will be chosen to represent the US in Cambridge England at the international exam. Adam Bratin ’09, Ryan Cairns ’11, Hadley Eichengreen ’11, Ben Gibson ’11, Connor Hilton (Morse) ’11, Dan Nickerson ’11, and Ainsley Pinkowitz ’09 also took part in the international competition sponsored by the American Chemical Society.
