Students enjoyed opportunity to volunteer in Costa Rica over spring break.
Twelve students from the ninth and tenth grades had the unique opportunity to travel to Cartago, Costa Rica and partner with a local, government run orphanage. Every day, they spent time with the children at the orphanage, organizing soccer and basketball games and arts and crafts projects. Other activities included reading with the children and playing games. They also tackled maintenance projects, including the repainting of a recreation room for the orphanage. In the afternoons, they engaged in cultural activities that included a visit to the Irazú Volcano, a secondary rain forest, an organic coffee plantation, and the Basilica in historic Cartago. The students were joined by faculty advisors, Mr. Ladd and Sra. Furgueson.
