A Letter from Boys Lacrosse Coach and Head of School Mark Fader

If you or your student is interested in participating in Boys Lacrosse this season, please review this letter from Mr. Fader.
As we approach spring and warmer temperatures, I write with great anticipation for the 2019 Boys Lacrosse Season. We will look to build on the success of the past two years with strong play, enthusiastic returning and new players, and the fun and pride of representing Williams on the lacrosse field. Joining me on my coaching staff once again will be Junior Varsity Coach Andrew Ferrucci, who returns for his second year with lacrosse and has already served as varsity soccer and basketball coach this year. Andrew will also assist me with the varsity team, while Mr. David Karlin, science teacher, will return this season to assist both teams. Andrew and David will allow me the time to balance my duties as Head of School. As in the past, all players on both Varsity and JV teams will practice skills and drills with each other (age and size appropriate) to better promote team concepts and have a unified way of learning the beautiful game of lacrosse. If an eighth grader is talented and mature enough, they will have the opportunity to play on the varsity team.

I am reaching out to all boys in grades 6-12 with the hope that if they are not already committed to another spring sport (tennis or sailing) or the spring musical, they will consider playing lacrosse. I truly enjoy teaching the fundamentals of the game to players of all skill levels and work hard to provide all players the experience of having fun playing a team sport. If someone has never played lacrosse but would like to try, there is a spot in our program.

We will have an informational meeting during ninth period on Monday, February 25. In all likelihood, we will practice in the gym during the first week, beginning Monday, March 4. As always, academics come first, so I will structure practices to allow for the highest player participation. We may have additional opportunities to practice should players be available during spring break.

Games will be scheduled to allow for the most appropriate competition. Depending on our numbers, there may be a few games where younger varsity players (grades 8 and 9) will join the JV team. It is our hope to have 12 Varsity games (excluding playoffs) and 8 JV games. I will be mindful of the number of games and practices with regards to players’ academic schedules.

In terms of equipment, we have team helmets for all boys’ lacrosse players. We have a limited number of gloves, arm pads, and shoulder pads for players to use this season. Information about ordering optional Williams apparel will be available as we get closer to the season. If you have any questions regarding equipment, please contact me.

In closing, I am thrilled for the opportunity to work with our new and returning boys’ lacrosse players this season. If someone is unsure about playing, please stop by to speak with me.
