Spanish III Honors Combines Their Language Skills With a Vision for Community Service

Students worked in groups to finish off their unit on creating a non-profit charitable organization.
Spanish III Honors class completed and presented their Community Service projects. As a capstone activity to their unit on applying for a part-time or summer job and doing volunteer work in the community, each group created its own non-profit charitable organization (à la Habitat for Humanity, the Make a Wish Foundation, etc.) centered on a particular cause and then organized an event to promote that cause. To publicize this event they created a poster, and finally they presented their organization, event, and poster to the class in a bid to win a grant. The organizations created by this class had such missions as providing prosthetics for canine soldiers wounded in combat, welcoming and assisting Syrian refugees, and fighting the human trafficking of children
