Madrid, the capital of Spain, is home to over 3 million people and we have two days to explore and learn.
Our first day in Madrid included a walking tour with a local guide to focus on the history of the city. After lunch some of our group took a bike ride while others explored Puerta del Sol. Late afternoon found us at the Prado Museum, best known for Las Meninas by Velázquez. After a late dinner we wandered back to our hotel.
The Museo del Prado houses an astonishing 3,000 paintings collected by Spanish royalty. This massive building is constantly expanding in order to accommodate its impressive catalogue of Velazquez and Goya. It also boasts fine pieces by El Greco, Botticelli and many Flemish artists.
