Technology Students Receive Virtual Visit from Game Designers
On Tuesday, one of Melissa Chiappone's middle school Tech Enrichment classes had the exciting opportunity to be visited by two guest speakers, virtually, through Skype in the Classroom.
Dr. Miko Charbonneau is the Senior Game Designer for the popular online game Minecraft and Lisa Sturm is a Microsoft Gameplay Developer who writes the code for it. These impressive guests answered questions sent in advance from students around the world, talked about their favorite parts of the job as well as what parts of it can be difficult. They discussed what led them down this career path and the importance of making mistakes in the design process and how it often leads to a better end result than expected. The eighth grade students in Mrs. Chiappone's class were able to participate in a Minecraft coding lesson on Code.org, and even took a virtual selfie with the speakers at the end of the discussion.
